The Idea

Openduino was created as a response to uncertainty in the wider maker ecosystem. Many people worried that long-trusted open-source tools could become restricted or commercialised. The project exists to provide a stable, community-owned alternative shaped by openness and long-term stewardship.

About the Founder (Anonymous)

The project’s initial proposal came from an ex-IT professional who began working in the late 1980s with mainframes, minicomputers, large x86 servers, desktops, and eventually handheld systems. Although retired due to disability, they remain passionate about the maker world and the values of open hardware and open software.

Their intention is simply to help get the community structure established. Once the charity is formed and membership becomes active, they will step back into the position of an ordinary member. Openduino is not meant to belong to any individual — it belongs to everyone who contributes.
